Sometimes though, I'd like to run naked through the prickly pears and let the thorns peal off this skin and reveal whatever is underneath. Snakes get cranky when they shed their skin, but it seems that human beings must bleed to shed theirs. I wonder when we as a species lost the ability to change without pain? It doesn't seem like a very good adaptation.
Happy Cactus Monday Cactuteers-remember to miss the thorns if you can!

Shedding our own skin to reveal the real us has always been a thorny and often painful problem. I think you have hit on the (painful) solution.
Wow. I really like what you said! Great question that we may never have an answer to. HCM to you, and may you bleed very, very little.
don't know what to say....HCM
Nothing really to say. There is some cosmic message about transformation going on-in fact, a Papillion appeared at my doorstep today. Not a bug, a 6 month old puppy, lost and hopeful for a bit of food and a secure fence or lap. I tried to ignore him, but he kept pawing at the gate asking to come in, so I let him.
Maybe the message is we can't hide from it-it will come looking for us if we don't look for it. Also, fucking neuter your puppies before they hit the roaming stage, but that's another story.
I made a few calls, posted a few found ads, gave Pappi a meal and tossed him in with Prissy and Lily who are good with puppies.
Dammit, I asked for a PONY not a Pappi.
I'm reading your post and all the comments and find myself laughing and pondering at the same time. :)
Teri-I find myself in the same situation most days, with a few tears in there too.
Stay away from those thorns girl. I certainly will. Happy Cactus Monday.
What a striking commentary...Love the analogy but ow! ow! ew! ew! on running naked ...especially through prickly pears...LOL...been there done that...but not naked! :)
