I joined Oprah's book club so I could go through this 10 week course on A New Earth, by Eckhardt Tolle http://www.oprah.com/obc_classic/webevent_registration.jsp.

I like the idea of study that is free-why should we always have to go to University to seek knowledge? And 10 weeks of figuring out my life's purpose just fits right now, what can I say?

Pop Psychology

OJ Simpson-yes he's a sociopath and clearly off his nut. Truly punish him-put him away somewhere and ignore him.

BUT

According press reports the Goldman's got the rights to the vile book he wrote, addes some stuff and it has now been released as a confession. Unless they are going to donate 100% of the proceeds to a victim of violence charity, that' a little creepy too.

Britney, Lindsay,Paris-have moved beyond spoiled rich kids into the full blown drug addict stage. It's less about the spoiled and more about the drugs. Drugs are drugs whether you buy them on the street corner or hae them delivered to your mansion.

But, my biggest concern is for Oprah. What is up with you lady-you look pretty awful. I'm not talking about weight, I'm talking about the loss of that sparkle, that Oprahness. I don't know what is going on with you, but please call Maya Angelou immediately and talk about it. I'm worried and I care.

New Truck

Daddy got a shiny new Ford Ranger and Mom was annoyed (surprise). I am preoccupied with an upset tummy, a sick cat and dog with an impacted anal gland, a looming earwax appointment with Uncle John and an existential crisis. So I was less than tactful. She said something and I said "at his age you ought to be glad he feels like going out and looking at trucks".

My friend Sue's daughter, Maya will say I HATE you /I LOVE you.....and I know just how she feels. Cause a few hours later Ma called to tell me Dr. Oz was on Oprah and she knows I don't watch daytime TV but maybe I would want to know????? Well, of course I would.

So I will record "The Truth About Food" tonight since "their satellite doesn't get Discovery.

The thing that scares me is that I have no idea what Mom wants or needs that she isn't getting, and apparently neither does she. And, while I'm not as cranky I do see some of that same frustration in ME. And it scares me.

Now, this is not neccessarily an age thing-Mom has always been high strung and cranky but the older you (and she and I) get, the less we are able to deal with the things that are ailing us emotionally. So, I'd like to get good and emotionally healthy while I still can. It shouldn't take more than one or two hundred years at the most.

Dr. Oz on Oprah (Winfrey Show)

Saw a rerun of Dr. Oz on Oprah-I really like that man. I really like Oprah too. He even devotes a chapter in his book "You on a Diet" to weight loss surgical options and deals with it directly and fairly.

Of course, he points out WLS (weight loss surgery) is just a tool and you have to learn to eat properly. I highly recommend the book.

I've got plans and appointments for the rest of the week-I really can't justify another complete rest day (until Saturday) and I can't just sit here and wait for the fat to fall off. In fact, I read something to the effect that movement increases the rate of falling fat.

I ordered a tricycle for Mom-I hope she rides it so we can ride together. If se doesn't, I will put the dogs in it and ride it myself.

ANOTHER One

Ok, I got an e-mail from someone in Canada who has a mint, I mean garage kept, condition 1972 Scotty. And I want it. But that is contrary to my less is more stance.

Somehow I think that is the crux of my problem-wanting the mint condition vehicle right off the bat rather than appreciating the old crusader. I know that's the case with me and dieting. Dieting is kind of weird if you stop and think about it-because it is never enough. Oprah in her size 10 jeans, that made such a splash a few years ago, would be a before picture by today's standards. (Happy Birthday Oprah)

I am going to mangle a line from AB Fab-Edina (discussing skinny celebs) "there must be a time, about two weeks after death, when they finally achieve the figure they desire. Nothing but bones and bumps."

I've been reading/watching the YOU series and I am hooked, hook line and sinker. One, I like measuring my waist, noting that it is smaller but not really knowing how to line that progress up on a chart. So, my brain grabs the one thing it can comprehend, the waist is smaller, and it goes happily about its day. Two, I really like the autospies where they show you a healthy dead heart vs. a sick dead heart. Awesome stuff. www.realage.com Dr. Oz rocks.

So, I am grappling with the progress towards the new, healthier body type concept, but like the trailer, I really want the new shiny one that's all there, right NOW. And the truth is, if I could just go right out and BUY a new healthy body, I would, so why not get the new/old shiny trailer?

Well, err, I think it's because I am also supposed to be learning to love and nurture the old beat up body and the old beat up trailer. Hmmm, did the DEVIL send the trailer to tempt me, or was it a lesson from GOD? And what is the difference? That's a lot of heavy stuff from one e-mail from a stranger.
